Welcome to Port City Church #ShareLoveChallenge! We're in a season of stretching and challenging ourselves to "Step Up" to the next level in our faith, so during the month of February, we're going to challenge ourselves to love the people around us better than ever before!

Jesus said the whole of the law and prophets boils down to 2 things: Love God, and Love People.  Follow along in this challenge, and begin to think about new ways that YOU can love people in everyday life.

Sunday, January 10  - Sunday, January 31

Week One

This week, read 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter!  Try to think about ways to apply it to your life, ways you can be better at loving those around you!

• Are you patient and kind to the people around you? Where do you struggle with this the most?

• How can you go about putting away childish things in your life?

• Try selfishness fast this week. Do it for at least a day! Anytime you have a selfish thought, reject it, and do the opposite.  See what happens in your life, and what you learn about yourself!

Pick a few of these challenges...try to do one every day!

• Do an extra chore around the house, without being asked.

• Pay it forward at a restaurant.

• Sign up for an extra serving opportunity at the church (ask your ministry leader if you're not sure)

• Talk to someone you wouldn't normally talk to, with the intention of becoming friends.

• Do something nice to surprise a family member.

• Invite an acquaintance over for dinner.

• Tell a non-believing friend about something God has done in your life recently.

• Invite someone at church (whom you could see yourself being friends with) out for coffee or dinner!

Week Two

This week, read Romans 8.  Read it with new eyes, as if you've never read it before.  Read it as if you're trying to understand your place in the world, and how you relate to God.

• Does knowing your place in the universe--your relationship to God--change any perspectives for you?

• How can you tell the people around you how much God loves them?

Pick a few of these challenges...try to do one every day!

​

• Offer to babysit someone's kids so they can go out to dinner.

• Have dinner with your parents.

• Make soup for a sick friend.

• Visit a retirement home and meet a new friend.

• Bring treats to work for your co-workers.

• Write a letter to someone, to let them know how much you appreciate them.

• Leave a treat for your mail carrier.

• Leave quarters at the laundry mat with a note.

• Give a single mom a gift card.

• Tell a non-believer about what Jesus means to you.

Week Three

This week, I want to focus on just two verses. Meditate on them every day this week, write it down, put it on your fridge, put it in your car...whatever you have to do to keep it in front of you! 

“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

— Jesus.

John 13:34-35

Answer, for yourself, the following questions:

​

• How does Jesus love? How did he love those he encountered in his time?

• How do we combat the common complaint about Christians that we're unkind and judgemental to people?

• If we don't love each other, what does that say about us?

Pick a few of these challenges...try to do one every day!

• Encourage someone who is working hard.

• Leave a 60% tip.

• Pray for a "word" over someone and give it to them.

• Sit down next to a stranger and give them a compliment.

• Give blood.

• Keep an extra umbrella handy to give out when it rains.

• Volunteer to walk dogs at the SPCA.

• Ask someone for their advice.

Week Four

Our focus for this week is Romans 12:9-15.  Write out this passage, word for word, and really let it sink into your soul.

• Are there any ways that you are pretending to love others, instead of actually loving them

• Are there any areas that you are lazy with love?

• Are you returning curses for curses in any area?
